Scirocco

Composition for flute, live electronics and video

Scirocco for flute, live electronics and video, composed by Marcel Wierckx in 2022 and commissioned by flautist Jaume Darbra Fa. The piece is an audiovisual exploration of the weather phenomenon that blankets southern Italy in a blood-colored rain of wet sand. The techniques used in both the audio and video parts are based on disintegration of digital media into discrete particles, and how these particles can coalesce again into forms and patterns determined by algorithmic processes like corpus-based resynthesis and semantic control of audio and visual processing.
